Tuya's global AI+IoT platform and smart solutions help electricity meter manufacturers quickly upgrade conventional meters to smart ones. The smart electricity meter solutions enable you to implement control, protection, alerting, and measurement functions easily by using the App. To manage devices easily, you can integrate smart electricity meters into energy management PaaS systems. Tuya offers a variety of flexible connection approaches. Tuya offer cloud access, App panel, cloud platform, and scenario PaaS.
Application scenario
Trade market
In shopping malls or trade markets, each shop separately uses an electricity meter to measure electricity consumption. Pain point 1: Checking electricity consumption Electricity meters are installed in power distribution cabinets in a locked power distribution room. Merchants cannot easily check electricity consumption. Smart meters provide detailed information on electricity consumption, allowing merchants to easily access them. Pain point 2: Arrears of electricity fees Merchants may fail to pay electricity fees on time. The prepayment function enables top up billing plan. Pain point 3: Prepayment Merchants usually go to the property office at a specified time to top up. With Tuya's smart solutions, they can quickly top up with the app.
Rental room
For rental rooms, electricity consumption is separately measured as per independent rooms and public spaces. Pain point 1: Checking electricity consumption To prevent tampering with electricity data, electricity meters are installed in outdoor power distribution cabinets. Therefore, tenants cannot easily check their electricity consumption. Smart meters enable checking detailed consumption data with the app. Pain point 2: Tampering with electricity data Traditional electricity meters do not trigger alerts if tenants tamper with electricity data. Smart electricity meters can detect exceptions, such as meter cover opening, end cover opening, and magnetic influence. Any tampering actions will immediately trigger alerts. Pain point 3: Prepayment Smart electricity meters allow top-up billing plan. Tenants can check the balances of their electricity accounts and top up in advance, reducing the workload of landlords.
Apartment
Smart electricity and water meters are independently installed in each room to separately measure electricity and water consumption. Therefore, the department manager can easily charge utility fees. Support regular data updating and remote monitoring. Tenants can check utility consumption on the app and top up by online payments. Pain point 1: Manual meter reading Manual meter reading is time-consuming, and data cannot be updated promptly. With smart meters, consumption data can be reported, collected, and stored regularly and checked easily. Pain point 2: Arrears of utility fees Tenants may fail to pay bills on time occasionally. The top-up function enables tenants to pay in advance. Pain point 3: Exception alerts Traditional electricity meters cannot send an alert in time when exceptions occur such as overloading. Smart meters can immediately push an alert to the related party.
Chain store
Various chain stores, such as restaurant and laundry, use high power electrical appliances. Electricity usually costs a lot. Energy-saving and safety are the major demands. Pain point 1: Checking electricity consumption High-power electrical appliances usually consume the most electricity. Smart electricity meters support a maximum working current of 100 A, enabling easy consumption checking. Pain point 2: Load management When all electrical appliances are working at full load, overloading may occur, which will lead to tripping and power failure. Smart electricity meters can link with other smart devices and partially reduce the load. Pain point 3: Off-duty consumption control Storekeepers may forget to shut down electrical appliances after getting off work, which cause energy waste and expose security threat. Smart electricity meters enable power checking anywhere and remote on/off control.
Commercial Lighting
In commercial lighting scenarios, smart meters are installed in distribution boxes, and data such as electricity consumption, voltage, current, and power are mastered by the owner in real time. The power meter has its own pull-close relay to realize remote lighting equipment switching. Pain point 1: The power consumption is not clear. Commercial lighting energy consumption costs are relatively large, and the property owner cannot grasp the lighting energy consumption costs of different properties. Smart meters are installed and energy consumption data is clear at a glance. Pain point 2: No feedback on equipment working status Whether the equipment is working properly requires maintenance personnel to check on site. The current and power data of the smart meter can reflect whether the device is in a normal working state. Pain point 3: Manual on-site pull and close. The switching of lighting equipment requires personnel to go to different property units to turn them on one by one. Smart meters can not only be remotely turned on or off individually, but also support one-key turn on or off in groups.
Farm
In farms, high-power fans, motors, or water pumps are used. Smart meters can well implement functions such as control, protection, metering, and alarms. The device can be turned on or off remotely, and the timing function can be set to allow the device to enter an automatic periodic work mode, thereby freeing the workload of the farmer. Pain point 1: Go to the scene to turn on the water pump. The fish farm is generally far away from the house and the transportation is inconvenient, so the farmer needs to go to the site for operation. The smart meter supports remote control, and the farmer can operate it at home. Pain point 2: The power consumption is not clear. Compared with traditional electricity meters, smart electricity meters not only realize control, but also view electricity consumption information, including electricity, voltage, current, power, frequency and other data. Pain point 3: There is no real-time alarm when abnormality occurs. When an abnormality such as overvoltage or overload occurs, the traditional electric meter cannot report the alarm in time. The smart meter can report alarm information in time and push it to relevant parties in real time.

Multi-industry PaaS support
Tuya provides smart PaaS solutions for different industries, including apartments, hotels, commercial lighting, communities, rental rooms, and new energy. As long as there are needs for measuring electricity consumption, you can use smart meters to implement measurement, protection, and control. Based on Tuya's standard protocols, the smart meters support parallel control and management with the app panel and the PaaS system.
Solution function
Electricity measurement
Smart meters support high-precision measurement of electrical data such as electricity consumption, voltage, current, power, and frequency. Based on visualized data, you can easily measure electricity consumption in specific scenarios and check the power grid quality.
Data display
The Tuya Cloud Platform collects and stores electricity data regularly reported by smart meters. You can view the last 7-day hourly electricity consumption data or the daily data for the recent year on the panel or in the PaaS system.
Remote control and protection
You can remotely control smart meters on/off on the panel or in the PaaS system. This function is especially useful when the devices are deployed outdoors. It enables you to easily control these devices and view their working statuses in the app at home.
Threshold alert
The app panel supports a maximum of 13 exception alerts, which enable different manufacturers to use differentiated product functions. When an exception occurs, the smart electricity meters send an alert to the app. Then, the app pushes a notification to remind you to promptly resolve the exception. You can configure the actions that smart electricity meters can take when some exceptions occur.
Smart linkage
You can configure cloud-based smart device linkage triggered by exception alerts. When overloading occurs, less-important electrical appliances automatically stop working.
Group function
Based on the electric meter of Tuya platform, the electric meter can be opened or closed at one time on the SaaS system or App, so as to facilitate the management of the control.
